Cavenaghi brace worries Lyon

Cavenaghi brace worries Lyon

13 April 2008 - 22:07

Argentinian striker Fernando Cavenaghi was on hand to keep Bordeaux close to Lyon on top of Ligue 1 tonight, as he grabbed two goals in a 2-1 victory over Caen at Parc Lescure.

  • Chelsea midfielder looking forward to London derby vs Spurs
  • Arsenal in the front row to sign Dutch striker

  • The Argentinian is regarded as one of the brightest prospects in the French league, and his goals could help knock Lyon off of top spot. Only four teams seperate the two sides at the top of Ligue 1.

There was nothing much to celebrate in the first half, however, and a goalless period may have helped motivate Bordeaux to push for more in the second.

On 52 minutes, Cavenaghi grabbed his first as a Wendel free kick was turned in by the Argentinian.

He then grabbed his second from the penalty spot as Caen's Nicolas Seube was penalised for handling the ball in his own area.

Caen's Jeremy Sorbon pulled a goal back in the 88th minute with an exquisite volley. But it wasn't enough as Bordeaux capitalised fully from Lyon's two dropped points on Saturday.
