Chelsea manager Frank Lampard has heaped praise on midfielder N'Golo Kante following the 2-0 win over Newcastle United on Saturday.
The Frenchman struggled with regular injury concerns last term and he was restricted to only 28 appearances across all competitions.
However, he has remained unscathed this season and he has managed to recapture the form which made him one of the best holding midfielders.
Kante controlled the proceedings at St James' Park with four tackles, three interceptions and three clearances and Lampard was undoubtedly pleased.
"His levels are really high. He's a top midfield player," He told via Football.London.
The Blues have temporarily jumped to the top of the standings with the win. They have now won three league matches on the bounce.
Elsewhere, their defensive record has vastly improved with clean sheets in six of the previous seven matches across all competitions.
They are scheduled to face Rennes on the road in the midweek Champions League action.
