Romario calls time on career

15 April 2008 - 11:38

Brazilian legendary striker Romario has officially called time on his glistening career that saw him help Brazil to the World Cup twice after his contract with Vasco de Gama officially ended on March 31st.

  • Predicted Chelsea line-up (4-2-3-1) vs Spurs, Gilchrist starts
  • Chelsea midfielder looking forward to London derby vs Spurs

  • "Officially, I won't play any more. I've given up. Everything has been very funny. I've enjoyed it a lot," Romario told SporTV in Rio de Janeiro at the launch of a DVD showing 900 of his 1,002 career goals.

"I've thought about this a lot to decide I had to stop. It's very difficult to return to playing after six months without playing."

Romario has already mentioned that a farewell match may take place between two of his old clubs at the Maracana.

"If somebody offers me to play a farewell match, it would be good that I wear the national shirt or maybe one that mixes the Vasco, Flamengo and Fluminense shirts. It must be well done. I'd like to call up my friends."
