Manchester United are understood to have made contact with the agent of David Alaba regarding a possible summer move.
Alaba recently confirmed that he will be heading for a new challenge when his Bayern Munich contract expires in the summer.
He has been heavily tipped to join Real Madrid and reports have claimed that he will sign a pre-contract in the coming weeks.
However, this has not stopped the speculation and ESPN claims that United have made a late approach for his services.
The club have made contact with agent Pini Zahavi with the hope of luring the versatile defender to Old Trafford this summer.
United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer wants a left-footed centre-back to partner Harry Maguire next season and Alaba is one of the top targets.
They are less likely to sign him as he is eager to fulfil his desire of playing for Madrid, who are his dream club.
Alaba has accumulated more than 400 appearances for Bayern in all competitions.
