Aston Villa are on the cusp of signing Emiliano Buendia from Norwich City this summer. The Villans have outbid Arsenal for the Argentine, as per Sky Sports News.
Buendia had a superb 2020/21 season for the Canaries, registering 15 goals and 17 assists from 39 Championship appearances.
He was widely touted to join the Gunners, but the Villans have marched ahead and are now on the verge of landing his signature.
They have agreed to pay a club-record fee of around £33m. The deal could rise to £40m with performance-based add-ons included.
Buendia has already undergone his medical in Argentina, where he is currently with the national side for the World Cup qualifiers.
A deal is expected to be announced over the next 48 hours. Meanwhile, Villa are also interested in Southampton captain James Ward-Prowse.
Villa boss Dean Smith wants to complete the transfer business early, and the club have their sights on the England international.
Ward-Prowse, who is known for his world-class set-pieces, could be available for around £30 million this summer.
