Tottenham Hotspur appoint Antonio Conte as new manager

02 November 2021 - 21:03

Tottenham Hotspur have confirmed the appointment of Antonio Conte as their new manager. The Italian has signed a contract until June 2023 with an option for another year.

  • Chelsea expected to sell striker after loan deal
  • Arsenal defender misses training ahead of Man Utd game

  • Spurs recruited Nuno Espirito Santo as their head coach over the summer, but the Portuguese was not the preferred choice for the north London club.

Things started brilliantly under Nuno with three wins from as many league games, but they have since picked up just six points from the next seven.

This paved the way for Nuno's sacking on Monday evening. Spurs have now taken the decision to appoint Conte as manager with immediate effect.

Conte is a serial winner. He recently guided Inter Milan to the Scudetto, ending Juventus' nine-year dominance in the Serie A.

He also has valuable Premier League experience. He helped Chelsea win the league in 2016/17, having finished 10th in the previous season.

There are high expectations on his shoulders at Spurs, and it remains to be seen whether he can turn the club's fortunes around.

Spurs are trophyless for 13 years, and Conte's initial task would be to end the drought by making the most of the Cup competitions.
