Manchester United have reportedly made contact with Borussia Dortmund defender Manuel Akanji over a summer move.
The Swiss is about to enter the final year of his contract at Dortmund, and he has no plans of penning an extension.
Hence, he will be sold during the summer, and SportBild claims that United are clear favourites to secure his services.
They have already made contact with Akanji through his agent. It is reported that Dortmund are eyeing a replacement.
Akanji is said to demand wages of around £160,000-a-week. United seem prepared to meet his salary requirements.
Meanwhile, he could be available for an affordable fee. It has been recently claimed that Dortmund could sell him for £21m.
The arrival of Akanji could pave the way for the departure of Eric Bailly and Phil Jones, who have barely played this season.
The Swiss is an excellent distributor of the ball, and has completed 90 per cent of his passes during the ongoing campaign.
