Chelsea striker pushing for summer departure

29 March 2022 - 20:36

Chelsea striker Timo Werner has instructed his agent to search for a new club ahead of the summer transfer window, Sport1 claims.

  • Arsenal to swap Gabriel Jesus for Inter Milan star?
  • Arsenal leading race to sign Belgian midfielder

  • The German joined the Blues with a big reputation in 2020, but had an average debut season where he was prone to missing scoring chances.

His fortunes have not improved this campaign. He has hardly started for the Blues since the turn of the year, and is now eyeing an exit.

According to Sport1, the 26-year-old has decided to quit the Blues this summer, and would prefer a return to the German Bundesliga.

Borussia Dortmund appear the front-runners to land his services. Chelsea won't block his exit if they receive a fee of around £33 million.

Werner was a huge success in the German top-flight, but has struggled to replicate similar performances for the west London giants.

He has personally acknowledged that he feels more comfortable playing for Germany over Chelsea. Werner recently scored against Israel in a friendly.
