Manchester United have been handed a boost in signing Borussia Dortmund defender Manuel Akanji this summer, Sport1 claims.
The Swiss has been with Dortmund for the past three-and-a-half years, but is expected to pursue a fresh challenge next term.
He currently has 15 months left on his contract. Dortmund are set to sell him as he has no plans of extending his stay with them.
According to Sport1, a number of European clubs are keeping tabs on Akanji, but he has his sights on a Premier League move.
The news could benefit the Red Devils, who have been keeping a close eye on his contract situation over the past few months.
The club are eyeing a new central defender with the inconsistent displays of Harry Maguire over the course of the campaign.
Akanji perfectly fits the bill with his excellent distribution qualities while he is also strong with his tackling and aerial prowess.
He could be available for a cut-price fee of around £25m.
