Manchester United have entered talks with Barcelona over a summer deal for Frenkie de Jong, Fabrizio Romano reports.
The Dutchman has been earmarked as the prime midfield target for new manager Erik ten Hag, but a deal is far from certain.
The club have opened negotiations with the Catalan giants, but the player is still unconvinced to pursue a fresh challenge elsewhere.
Meanwhile, De Jong is also keen on playing Champions League football which United can't offer him during the 2022/23 campaign.
Despite this, there is still optimism from United's side. The club believe Barcelona could push for De Jong's exit amid their financial issues
The Catalan giants need to make a big sale before June 30 to balance their books. It is claimed that De Jong could be sacrificed for the same.
De Jong has not received any concrete offers from across Europe. This could further aid United's chances of landing his services this summer.
Barcelona want at least €85 million to sanction his sale.
