Manchester United are reportedly interested in signing Braga defender David Carmo amid the uncertainty over a deal for Jurrien Timber.
Timber is the number one target for manager Erik ten Hag this summer, but the centre-back has reservations over joining the Red Devils.
He had a good on-field relationship with Ten Hag at Ajax, but is wary of joining United ahead of the winter World Cup in Qatar.
The 20-year-old is currently a mainstay in the Netherlands squad, but fears he could drop out if he endures a difficult spell with United.
Amidst this, O Jogo claim that Carmo is the plan B for United. They have been keeping tabs on his progress since his injury comeback.
Carmo spent a year on the sidelines with an ankle fracture, but since his return in February, his form has been hugely impressive.
The Portuguese is strong in the air and likes to make tackles, but his distribution is not the best. That could scupper his chances of joining United.
Ten Hag prefers to work with ball-playing central defenders. Carmo is not an ideal fit, having completed only 80 percent of his passes last term.
