Michael Carrick has praised Manchester United fellow midfielder Paul Scholes for being a 'legend' for the side, and after helping Utd secure a place in the Champions League final for the first time since 1999.

  • "He is a superb player, perhaps not as appreciated as he should have been over the years,” he said. "I have seen him score goals like that so many times, and the speed and timing with which he hits the ball are amazing.

"He is a legend, isn't he? And he is going to be remembered for a long time. Just to play alongside him and learn from him has been an absolute pleasure. He is a footballer's footballer. He has been at this level for so long.

"As long as he is part of us we always feel we have a chance. We appreciate the way he goes about his business. I have never met a character like Scholesy, certainly not someone who is that good.”
