Karl-Heinz Rummenigge admitted he was absolutely gutted after a resounding 4-0 loss in the UEFA Cup semi final to Russian side Zenit St Petersburg which saw the German giants tumbling out of the tournament at the last hurdle.
âOf course weâre disappointed not to reach the finalâ Rummenigge said after the game. âWe are not used to losing 4-0.
âToday we came up against an opponent who played superb football. You cannot forget they started their Russian championship only a few weeks ago so they are quite fresh.
âOur team has been playing three times a week for the past few months and today Zenit were in better condition, fresher and fitter, whereas we were a bit tired.
âWe have won two trophies and are German Cup winners and league champions. If youâd told us that at the start of the season, we would have been delighted.â
