Manchester United are hopeful of negotiating a late deal for Ajax winger Antony before the transfer deadline.
The Brazil international has been one of Erik ten Hag\'s prime transfer targets for the summer, but a deal has failed to materialise.
United\'s verbal offer of around €60m was rejected last month. In the process, Ajax made a counter proposal in the region of €80m.
The Red Devils have no plans of meeting the asking price, but believe they can negotiate a lesser fee, just before the transfer window shuts.
It remains to be seen whether that happens. Ajax managed to command a hefty €65m from United for Lisandro Martinez earlier this summer.
The Dutch champions are reluctant to lose anymore players, and are in a strong position to keep Antony with three years left on his deal.
The onus is on United to make an improved bid for the 22-year-old and hope that Ajax are willing to give in before the summer transfer deadline.
