Chelsea are likely to make a fresh approach to land Ajax midfielder Edson Alvarez in January, according to The Mail.
The Blues were hot on the trail of the South American star last summer, but Ajax had no time to land a suitable successor.
As a result, their deadline-day bid was rejected but the Blues have not given up on landing the highly-rated defensive midfielder.
Alvarez has publicly admitted that he wanted to join the Blues, and the club are prepared to revive their interest ahead of January.
Ajax were happy to turn down their €50 million proposal last summer and the Blues may need to make an improved bid for him.
It could be worthwhile, considering N'Golo Kante is out for four months after a hamstring surgery and could leave for free soon.
Kante is about to enter the final six months of his Blues deal and the hierarchy have decided against a renewal amid recent injuries.
