Chelsea are in advanced talks with RB Leipzig to sign defender Josko Gvardiol.
The Blues have been long-term admirers of the Croatian star and they are prepared to make a fresh approach in the New Year.
According to 90min, the 20-year-old has a £45m release clause on his contract which only becomes active in the summer.
However, the Blues want to secure a pre-agreement in January and are willing to pay a higher transfer fee for the same.
Aside from Gvardiol, the London giants are also engaged in talks with Leipzig to finalise the transfer of Christopher Nkunku.
Similar to his teammate, Nkunku's £52m release clause becomes active next summer, but the Blues are eyeing a pre-agreement.
If things go as planned, Chelsea could end up signing Nkunku and Gvardiol next summer. The overall fee could be more than £100m.
The Blues are planning for the long-term under owner Todd Boehly. They are on the look out for the best young players in world football.
