The Red Devils are currently third in the league standings with 50 points, but just three points separate them from the Magpies in fifth.

Hence, they have much work to do to finish in the Champions League places. Ahead of Sunday's game, they have been handed a boost.

He is likely to work on his fitness in the coming days before joining his teammates in preparation for the weekend trip to Tyneside.

United are currently 19 points behind league leaders Arsenal with two games in hand. They seem unlikely to catch the Gunners at the top.

However, the club are still alive in the FA Cup and Europa League and should fancy their chances of winning more silverware.

United recently ended a six-year trophy drought by lifting the Carabao Cup.
