Chelsea have emerged as favourites to sign Southampton midfielder Romeo Lavia this summer, according to Sacha Tavolieri.

The west London giants are looking to bolster their midfield, and they are planning to pursue two young midfielders.

The Blues recently received a setback in the pursuit of Manuel Ugarte, but they have alternative targets in their sights.

According to Tavolieri, Lavia is one of the players on their radar. It is claimed that the Blues could be favourites to sign him.

Lavia joined the Saints from Manchester City for £14m last summer, and he was one of their best performers in his debut season.

Despite his efforts, the South Coast outfit were relegated from the top-flight and he is now expected to pursue a new challenge.

Chelsea are now leading the race for his services, but he won\'t come on the cheap. The Saints could demand around £50m.

Manchester City currently have the option of re-signing him for £40m, but the clause will only become active in June 2024.
