Arsenal look set to miss out on Real Valladolid defender Ivan Fresneda, according to Portuguese publication Record.
Fresneda was heavily linked with the Gunners in the January transfer window, but no offer was made before the deadline.
With the recent injury to Jurrien Timber, it was anticipated that Arsenal could return for him, but Sporting have won the race.
The Portuguese outfit have agreed a deal in principle with Valladolid for the teenager, who is predominantly a right-back.
Sporting have agreed to pay 10 million euros up front with a further 5 million euros in add-ons for the young Spaniard.
They have been given permission to speak with Fresneda, and the teenager is expected to accept personal terms with them.
Fresneda is eager to play regular first-team football, and it could be a prime reason behind Arsenal deciding against a move.
Barcelona and Real Madrid were also linked with him earlier this summer. Fresneda could secure a bigger move in future.
