Manchester United midfielder Scott McTominay rejected the opportunity to join Fulham on transfer deadline day.
The Scotland international has been a fringe player for the Red Devils and he was touted to leave the club this summer.
West Ham United were initially keen on signing him, and towards the deadline, Fulham made an approach.
It is now revealed by Fabrizio Romano that McTominay rejected the chance to join the Cottagers in the last window.
The London club agreed to sell Joao Palhinha to Bayern Munich, but they wanted to bring in a replacement first.
Palhinha underwent his medical in Munich, but Fulham were eventually forced to call him back in the end.
They were hoping to sign McTominay's as Palhinha's successor, but ran out of time to convince him over a move.
Fulham are likely to try again at the beginning of 2024, considering Palhinha is determined to join Bayern.
Palhinha had his media duties with the German champions, and was left stunned by Fulham's recall decision.
