Manchester United star Harry Maguire has confirmed that he was the subject of interest from West Ham United this summer.
The Hammers agreed a deal worth £30 million with United for the defender, but a transfer did not materialise due to personal terms.
Maguire was prepared to accept a £70,000-a-week pay-cut on his wages, but he wanted United to compensate him for the same.
He demanded a high pay-off of around £15m, and this was the prime reason behind the move falling through at the last hurdle.
Speaking to Express, Maguire has now acknowledged that a move did not happen due to differences over the compensation.
He said: "How can I put this? We just didn’t come to an agreement. They were happy for me to stay and I was happy to fight for my place. I want to do that and every time I train or play I will give everything."
Maguire has made just one substitute appearance this campaign, but he could start on Saturday with Lisandro Martinez injured.
Martinez suffered a foot problem in the defeat to Arsenal and it is unclear whether the centre-back would be fit to face Brighton.
