Manchester United could make a shock approach to sign Bayern Munich defender Matthijs de Ligt during the winter transfer window, according to Fichajes.net.
The Red Devils strengthened their squad with multiple faces in the last transfer window, but they failed to improve their central defensive department.
They had the plan of selling Harry Maguire to West Ham United to pursue a replacement, but that did not work out. The former captain refused to leave without a huge pay-cut.
As a result, the club did not make any changes to their central defence, but may look for a solution in January. As per Fichajes, they could swoop for the services of De Ligt.
It is reported that Bayern value the defender at €80 million, but would be willing to accept significantly less if a player is involved in the deal, most likely Scott McTominay.
Bayern boss Thomas Tuchel is a huge admirer of the Scot from his days as Chelsea manager. He has identified him as a potential alternative to Fulham's Joao Palhinha.
