Manchester United have identified Sporting Lisbon's Goncalo Inacio as a potential candidate to strengthen their central defence in January.
The Red Devils spent more than 200 million euros to reinforce their squad last summer, but they failed to bring in a top-class centre-back.
Jonny Evans was the only centre-back signing on a free transfer and they are likely to invest again when the transfer window reopens in January.
As per Football Insider, the hierarchy could look for a new centre-back this winter after the injuries to Raphael Varane and Lisandro Martinez.
Varane's setback is only a minor one but Martinez could be out of action for several months following a recurrence of his metatarsal problem.
It is claimed that Inacio could emerge as an option for them despite him signing a long-term contract over the summer with Sporting.
Inacio's release clause was increased from €45m to €60m as a result, but he continues to be closely tracked by the Mancunian giants.
