Manchester United have reportedly joined Liverpool in the race to sign Sporting Lisbon defender Goncalo Inacio.
The Portuguese is one of the best centre-backs in the Primeira Liga and he has been touted to pursue a bigger challenge.
Liverpool have already made contact with his representatives, but they are likely to face competition from United.
Both clubs are closely monitoring his performances and the duo could make formal bids for him in the New Year.
Among the two, Liverpool are better placed financially than United and may afford to sign him without any sales.
United, on the other hand, will require a high-profile exit to land him due to their tight Financial Fair Play situation.
Inacio signed a new contract earlier this season. With the renewal, his release clause increased from €45m to €60m.
Sporting are likely to hold out for the same figure, but they could be willing to accept payments in the form of instalments.
