Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has confirmed that goalkeeper Altay Bayindir will be making his club debut against Newport County in the FA Cup fourth round.
The Turkey international joined the Red Devils from Fenerbahce on a permanent deal last summer and it was anticipated that he could make his debut in the Carabao Cup.
However, Ten Hag resisted playing him in the tournament and he has yet to make his first-team bow. With Andre Onana now on international duty, Bayindir has finally got his chance.
Bayindir has impressed plenty of backroom staff in training, but Ten Hag has persisted with Onana every game. Bayindir has the opportunity to prove his credentials to the manager.
United face Wolverhampton Wanderers on the road in the league three days later. Onana could be back for the game if Cameroon lose to Nigeria in the African Cup of Nations last 16.
Ten Hag is expected to field a strong side against Newport in South Wales, considering the FA Cup is the only opportunity for United to claim silverware in the current season.
