Man Utd midfielder Michael Carrick has signed a new four year contract with the Premiership champions. The news comes as a welcome boost for United ahead of their Champions League final match up with Chelsea on Wednesday in Moscow.

  • Carrick joined from Tottenham in a £18.6 million move and has since become a regular in the United first-team, particularly this season, playing over 48 games for United.

A happy Sir Alex Ferguson said of Carrick's new deal: "I am delighted Michael has signed a new contract.

"Michael has been outstanding since joining us from Tottenham and it is great to know he will be a part of this squad for many years to come."
