Manchester United are eyeing a surprise move for Barcelona wonderkid Pau Cubarsi, according to Sport.
The Red Devils are expected to strengthen their centre-back department and they are looking at various options.
The club are also exploring signings for the future and Cubarsi has emerged as a potential target for the board.
Cubarsi made his Barcelona debut earlier in January and he has already registered 12 appearances for them.
The 17-year-old has been brilliant at the heart of the defence for Barcelona. He has completed 91 per cent of his passes.
He has a huge future ahead of him and it remains to be seen whether United have any chance of luring him to them.
Cubarsi currently has a low release clause of €10m, but United can't trigger the value until he turns 18 next year.
Due to Premier League rules, they find themselves in such a position.
This should be a boost for Barcelona, who are already negotiating a new deal for Cubarsi with a huge clause.
The Catalan giants plan to hand a long-term contract to Cubarsi as soon as he turns 18 on January 22 next year.
