Manchester United and Liverpool could make proposals to sign Sporting Lisbon defender Goncalo Inacio this summer.
The Red Devils are expected to sign a new centre-back in the coming weeks with Raphael Varane set to leave on a free transfer.
The Reds are likewise in a similar position. They have confirmed that Joel Matip will leave when his contract expires on June 30.
O Jogo now claim that United are weighing up an approach for Inacio and they have already spoken with the player's entourage.
Liverpool are not far behind in the race and the duo could battle it out for his signature when the transfer window reopens.
Inacio currently has a release clause worth £50m in his contract, but reports claim that Sporting could be willing to sell him for less.
The Portuguese outfit desperately need a big-money sale before June 30 and could be prepared to sell Inacio for a discount.
United could have the upper hand over the Reds in the pursuit, considering Inacio is represented by the same agent as Bruno Fernandes.
