Manchester United have made an opening bid to sign Everton defender Jarrad Branthwaite this summer, according to Daily Mail.
The 21-year-old had a sensational breakthrough season with the Toffees last term where he was superb in the heart of the defence.
Branthwaite won almost 70 percent of his duels with four clearances and five recoveries per game. He also made important tackles.
United are now determined to land his signature and Daily Mail claim that an opening bid worth £45m has been made today.
The Toffees are expected to turn down the proposal, but there is an acceptance that a huge bid could be accepted for him.
The Merseyside outfit are currently eyeing around £70m for their prized asset and appear reluctant to accept anything less.
However, United will be looking to negotiate on the price. The new management are reluctant to pay over the odds for any player.
Branthwaite has already agreed personal terms with the Red Devils.
