Benfica left-back Rodrigo Veiga is set to undergo his medical with Chelsea next week, according to Fabrizio Romano.
The Blues have been exploring a new left-back in the last few weeks. Bologna's Riccardo Calafiori was initially their top target, but they were priced out of a potential deal.
The club were aiming to sign the Italian star in a player-plus-cash deal, but Bologna refused to accept such a proposal, considering Arsenal were willing to negotiate a straight-cash move.
Hence, Chelsea decided to turn their attention towards Veiga. The Blues have agreed a deal worth €15m for the Portuguese left-back, who can also operate in midfield and in central defence.
He will travel to the English capital in the next 24 hours. Romano claims that he will undergo a medical next week before penning an eight-year contract with the west London giants.
Meanwhile, Arsenal are on the cusp of landing Calafiori and they are currently sorting out the final fee with Bologna. He could join for an overall package of around €50m, as per reports.
