Spurs call off Etoo bid

Spurs call off Eto'o bid

20 May 2008 - 12:35

Premiership side Tottenham Hotspur have been reported to have relinquished their interest in the FC Barcelona want-away striker Samuel Eto'o due to the player's high wage demands.

  • Chelsea ready to sell four home-grown players
  • Predicted Chelsea line-up (4-2-3-1) vs Aston Villa, Palmer starts

  • Cameroonian striker Samuel Eto'o is being touted as to leave the Camp Nou this season and a host of clubs are vying for his prized signature. Spurs appeared to be in the offing until very recently but now it has emerged that they have pulled themselves out of the reckoning.

The reason being sited is that the north London club cannot meet the high wage demands of the player.

Eto'o has been offered €7 million-a-year by Spurs but the player earns that much amount at Barca without the additional perks and bonuses.

So a move to White Hart Lane would imply that Eto'o essentially take a pay-cut which the Cameroonian international striker obviously wouldn't do. Spurs were eager to splash out the €40 million transfer fee that Barca want.

And now that Spurs have confirmed that they are backing out of the deal, Italian champions Inter Milan have resurfaced as the favourite club to land Samuel Eto'o.
