Arsenal have made initial contact with Sporting Lisbon regarding Viktor Gyokeres, according to Record in Portugal.
The Sweden international joined Sporting from Coventry City last summer, and he had a brilliant debut season with 43 goals and 15 assists.
He has continued his good form this term with one goal and three assists from only two outings. Sporting are more than happy to keep him, but the scenario could change before the transfer window closes.
Record claim that Gyokeres' exit can't be entirely ruled out. Arsenal are one of the clubs who have held informal talks with Sporting.
The Portuguese champions are holding out for his €100m release clause at the moment, but they are prepared to discuss a long-term payment plan.
Hence, Arsenal have some leeway in negotiations and this could encourage them to make a formal bid for the Sweden star very soon.
The Gunners could turn their attention to landing Gyokeres as soon as they complete the signing of midfielder Mikel Merino from Real Sociedad.
