William Gallas tips Ten Hag for the axe before Christmas

William Gallas tips Ten Hag for the axe before Christmas

19 August 2024 - 11:33

Former Arsenal and Chelsea defender William Gallas believes that Erik Ten Hag is the manager mostly likely to be fired, predicting the Man Utd boss will be fired before Christmas. Ten Hag has helped United to two domestic trophies, but there are still question marks over the Dutchman's long term future.

  • Aston Villa eyeing loan move for £60m Chelsea star
  • Chelsea to sign Garnacho

  • United have recently shaken up their backroom staff, but Ten Hag is still in the hotseat. Gallas thinks that in the long term, that is most unlikely to be the case.

“I think Erik ten Hag is the manager that goes into the new season under the most amount of pressure. I don’t think that it matters that he signed a contract extension in the summer, there are a lot of question marks about him and his team. He will need to get off to a good start otherwise the pressure on his shoulders will really start to mount,” said Gallas.

Gallas pondered whether or not ten Hag will be in charge of the club at Christmas, saying that he believed the chances of him being dismissed before Chelsea’s Enzo Maresca are higher.

“If you asked me which manager was the most at risk of getting sacked before Christmas, then Erik ten Hag would be at the top of my list. People may think that Enzo Maresca could be the first manager to go if he gets off to a bad start, but I just don’t think that will happen. I would be amazed if Chelsea decided to fire another manager after giving him and his team five-year contracts so quickly. Ten Hag is the manager whose position looks the most vulnerable out of all of the big clubs in the Premier League."
