Wales beat Slovakia 5-2

12 September 2007 - 22:31

Wales earned a useful 3 points as they defeated Slovakia 5-2 away from home. Craig Bellamy scored a brace and forced an own goal as Wales earned a fine win away in Trnava.

  • Marek Mintal gave Slovakia an early lead to give Wales a worrying start. However, Wolves striker Freddy Eastwood equalised as he took the ball down from Ledley's cross. Bellamy then scored twice in quick succession, racing clear from through balls by Eastwood and Ledley.

Mintal pulled one back for his second goal, but Jan Durica's own goal - forced by Craig Bellamy - and a late breakaway strike by Simon Davies sealed the three points for Wales.

Wales' young side look very impressive and it is the first time in 11 years that Wales have scored 5 goals in a match.
