Fiorentina sign Melo

Italian Serie A side Fiorentina have completed the signing of Brazilian midfielder Felipe Melo from Almeria but had to lose Tomas Ujfalusi to Atletico Madrid.

  • Fiorentina finished fourth in the Serie A table in the recently concluded 2007-2008 season and have therefore earned a right to play UEFA Champions League football next season. The Viola are thus busy preparing for next season's European venture.



    As part of the strenghtening process of the current squad, the Florence based club has decided to import midfielder Melo. Melo was one of the stars for Almeria in Spain this season and is expected to cost Fiorentina around ₤12 million.



    The former Real Mallorca and Racing Santander midfielder shall arrive in Florence this week to agree personal terms and sign a four-year deal.



    Meanwhile, Czech interntional defender Tomas Ujfalusi has decided ot to renew his four-year contract with Fiorentina which ran out this summer and shall join Spanish giants Atletico Madrid on a free transfer. He has signed a three-year deal with Atleti who shall also play UEFA Champions League football next season after finishing fourth in La Liga.
