Arsenal are reportedly interested in a surprise transfer deal for Barcelona defender Ronald Araujo this month.
The Gunners have had troubles in the attacking department this campaign and they need a forward signing this winter.
However, Mundo Deportivo claim that the Gunners have different plans in mind and could bolster their defence instead.
The club have stepped up their pursuit of Araujo, who could be allowed to leave the Blaugrana in the current transfer window.
The Uruguayan is unsure over his starting spot at the Catalan giants with the form of Pau Cubarsi and Inigo Martinez at centre-back.
With Barcelona due to sign Jonathan Tah on a free transfer next summer, Araujo could prefer to pursue a new challenge elsewhere.
Juventus have proposed to sign him on loan with a buy obligation, but Arsenal are prepared to provide strong competition for him.
The north London giants are prepared to bid strongly to bring Araujo to the Emirates Stadium before the transfer window closes.
