Arsenal are set to complete the signing of Real Sociedad midfielder Martin Zubimendi, as per Fabrizio Romano.
The Gunners are long-term admirers of the Spain international and they have now fully agreed terms with the midfielder.
The club now need to proceed and trigger the €60 million release clause in his contract to prise him away from Sociedad.
Zubimendi has been heavily linked with Real Madrid in recent weeks and the speculation has intensified with Xabi Alonso's appointment as manager.
Alonso had a good bond with Zubimendi when he was Sociedad's assistant and there has been talk that a reunion could be on the cards.
However, it appears the 26-year-old has decided to commit to the Gunners and a transfer could materialise in the near future.
Arsenal may not want to pay the release clause in full and could enter talks with Sociedad over a long-term payment package.
In that way, they can also secure an advanced agreement rather than waiting for the transfer window to reopen to trigger the clause.
