Big Phil in big trouble

Big Phil in big trouble

14 September 2007 - 11:37

Portugal coach and former front runner for the England job Luiz Felipe Scolari is facing the sack after hitting an opponent.

  • Chelsea ready to pay €75m for Eduardo Camavinga
  • Chelsea planning move for Strasbourg striker Joaquin Panichelli

  • The World Cup winning coach, nicknamed 'Big Phil', is currently being investigated by the Portuguese FA and UEFA after he appeared to aim a punch at Serbian centreback Ivica Dragutinovic in the aftermath of his sides 1-1 draw on Wednesday.

Scolari apologised for his conduct, but claimed he was only defending one of his players: "He was going to hit Quaresma and I jumped in to stop him. It was the wrong reaction. I apologise."

Portugal currently lie third in their Euro 2008 qualifying group after a run of draws which has left them four points behind leaders Poland.
