Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca has confirmed that Noni Madueke made the personal decision to leave the Blues for Arsenal this summer.
The England international has been a key player for the west London giants, but he is expected to play for a new club next season.
The Gunners recently agreed a package worth £52m for his services and Madueke has now been permitted to undergo his medical.
When asked about the decision, Maresca said that Madueke decided to pursue a new challenge and the club did not compel him to do so.
He said: "If a player wants to leave, then in the end it is difficult for the club and manager. And yes, Noni decided to leave. No one said to Noni he has to leave. It was his own decision. If he is happy, we are happy."
Madueke is a specialist right winger and it is anticipated that he will join the Gunners to provide quality backup behind Bukayo Saka.
