Figo to leave if Mancini stays

27 May 2008 - 06:46

Inter Milan star Luis Figo has made it all but clear that he shall have to jump ship if the current Inter coach Roberto Mancini decides to stick on at Inter beyond the summer.

  • Predicted Chelsea line-up (4-2-3-1) vs Spurs, Gilchrist starts
  • Chelsea midfielder looking forward to London derby vs Spurs

  • Speaking to the Portuguese sports daily "A Bola", the former Portuguese international said that he can last one more season in professional club football. He also reiterated his keen desire to stay on and retire at Inter but has expressed his doubt on whether he can do so should Mancini stay on for the Nerazzurri.

The former Real Madrid galactico said:

"I have the physical condition to do one more season, but I only want to have the same status as my team-mates.

"If there is a change in the team's coach, then I will have a lot more of a chance of staying at Inter. Otherwise, it will be nearly impossible to stay.

"My situation this year was not the most pleasant one. I know I can do a lot more: I had some injuries and I had to undergo surgery."

Figo and Mancini have shared a tumultous relationship in the recently concluding 2007-2008 season and one of them is set to leave.
