Manchester United could reportedly turn their attention to signing Crystal Palace midfielder Adam Wharton if they are unable to land Carlos Baleba from Brighton & Hove Albion.
The Red Devils are determined to bolster their defensive midfield department this summer, and Baleba has emerged as the top target for manager Ruben Amorim.
However, a deal could be very difficult to pursue, considering Brighton want a staggering £120m to part ways with the midfielder before the transfer deadline.
Amidst this, the Red Devils have earmarked Wharton as the backup target. They could make a £75m bid for the former Blackburn Rovers graduate if Baleba can't be signed.
Palace are currently considering bids from Tottenham Hotspur and Liverpool for Eberechi Eze and Marc Guehi respectively ahead of the transfer deadline.
It remains to be seen whether they would entertain the prospect of selling Wharton, suppose they end up parting ways with both Eze and Guehi in the near future.
