RB Leipzig have opened talks with Chelsea for the transfer of Christopher Nkunku, according to journalist David Ornstein.
The Blues are determined to part ways with the Frenchman, and they have been in contact with several clubs over a potential sale.
Leipzig have now expressed an interest in re-signing the 27-year-old, and talks are already advanced with the west London giants.
Chelsea are likewise keen on landing Xavi Simons from the Bundesliga outfit, and there could be separate deals negotiated for both.
The Blues will have to pay around €70m for the services of Simons, but could recoup part of the funds with Nkunku's move to Leipzig.
Bayern Munich were previously keen on landing the versatile playmaker, but they only preferred a loan deal with an option to purchase.
Leipzig are now in pole position to reunite with Nkunku. It appears only a matter of time before Simons moves in the opposite direction.
Nkunku has been earmarked as a replacement for Simons by Leipzig.
