The England international pushed for a loan move over the summer, but United were adamant that he would not be allowed to head for the exit door.

Mainoo tried his best to secure a temporary switch. Napoli were keen on landing his signature, but the Red Devils refused to listen to any offers.

The Serie A champions have not cooled their pursuit, but reports claim that the Red Devils won't be changing his stance ahead of the New Year.

Mainoo is determined to play the World Cup with England. He has not been selected in the national team squad since Thomas Tuchel took charge.

Tuchel has made it clear that he won't be picking players without regular playing time. Mainoo looks poised to miss out unless he somehow convinces United to sanction a temporary move in January.
