Chelsea have agreed personal terms with Rennes centre-back Jeremy Jacquet ahead of a potential winter transfer, according to Fabrizio Romano.
The 19-year-old is regarded as one of the best young centre-backs in French football, and he has been touted to pursue a bigger challenge soon.
Arsenal looked at the prospect of landing his signature last summer, but went on to land Cristhian Mosquera and Piero Hincapie (on loan) instead.
The Blues have now taken the lead in the pursuit of Jacquet and reports claim that they have already agreed a long-term contract with the teenager.
However, they still face an uphill battle to convince Rennes into a transfer. They are looking for at least £60 million to part ways with the Frenchman.
The Blues are currently in France negotiating with Rennes and remain optimistic of finding an agreement with the Ligue 1 outfit very soon.
Jacquet has also been linked with Bayern Munich this month, but the German champions prefer to sign him at the end of the campaign.
