Liverpool have decided against pursuing a loan deal for RB Leipzig star Lutsharel Geertruida before the transfer deadline on Monday.
The Reds recently made an approach to land the Netherlands international from Leipzig on loan, but the deal has proved complicated.
The versatile ace is presently on a season-long loan at Sunderland, and the Black Cats would need to be compensated to terminate his stay.
Sunderland have obviously played hardball in the negotiations, and Liverpool have therefore decided against proceeding with further talks.
Arne Slot's side are unlikely to pursue an alternative target before the transfer deadline and could focus on bolstering their defence in the summer.
They hold a keen interest in landing Rennes starlet Jeremy Jacquet and are expected to compete with Chelsea for his services when the season ends.
Bayern Munich and Arsenal are also long-term admirers of the Frenchman, who could be permitted to leave for around £61 million this summer.
