Manchester United rejected the opportunity to sign Besiktas midfielder Wilfred Ndidi before the transfer deadline this month, according to Fabrizio Romano.
The Red Devils were touted to land a new defensive midfielder during the winter transfer window, and Ndidi was mentioned as a target.
The Nigerian star was open to returning to the Premier League with the Red Devils, but the club did not proceed with an approach for him.
United decided to shelve their transfer plans after parting ways with manager Ruben Amorim. Michael Carrick has since taken temporary charge.
They could have signed Ndidi to shore up the holding midfield department, but the hierarchy felt they should save their budge for a spending spree this summer.
The decision may not be seen as a blow. Casemiro has been fantastic as a no.6 and could start every game until the end of the campaign amid his fine form.
The Brazilian recently opened the scoring against Fulham and also provided an assist. He was the man of the match in the 3-2 league win at home.
