Manchester United manager Michael Carrick has confirmed that Harry Maguire and Luke Shaw are doubtful to face Newcastle United in the Premier League tomorrow.
The Red Devils have been in superb form under Carrick and they are presently third in the league table with 51 points on the board.
Ahead of Wednesday's clash at St James' Park, Carrick has revealed that Maguire and Shaw have been unwell and may need to be assessed.
He did not rule out the defensive duo, but acknowledged that the club are doing their best to ensure that they are deemed fit for the clash.
Carrick has preferred a settled backline in the early weeks, but he could be forced into multiple changes if Maguire and Shaw are unavailable.
Centre-back Lisandro Martinez has been out for the last few games with a calf injury. Leny Yoro has provided cover for the Argentine in recent matches.
If Maguire and Shaw are absent, Carrick may have to choose Ayden Heaven and Noussair Mazraoui in the centre-back and left-back roles.
