Spurs to move for Celtic player?

Tottenham linked with Benjamin Nygren transfer move

13 May 2026 - 05:50

Tottenham Hotspur are stepping up their interest in Celtic attacker Benjamin Nygren ahead of the summer transfer window as the North London club prepare for a major rebuild under Roberto De Zerbi. Spurs are expected to prioritise attacking reinforcements after an inconsistent campaign, and Nygren has emerged as one of the standout names on their shortlist.

  • Juventus exploring deal for Chelsea striker

  • The Swedish international has enjoyed a superb season in Scotland following his move from FC Nordsjælland. Nygren has developed into one of Celtic's most influential attacking players, combining creativity, intelligent movement and consistent goalscoring form. Tottenham view him as a cost-effective option capable of adding versatility across multiple attacking positions.

Nygren has reportedly contributed 20 goals and eight assists in all competitions this season, numbers that have attracted attention from several Premier League clubs. Tottenham believe his technical ability and work ethic would fit naturally into De Zerbi's high-tempo attacking style. The 24-year-old can operate on either wing, as a number ten or even centrally when required, giving Spurs tactical flexibility they have lacked at times this year.

There is also a growing feeling internally that if Tottenham remain in the Premier League this season, Nygren will become one of the club's priority attacking targets. Spurs are expected to be active in the market regardless, but survival would strengthen their financial position and allow them to move more aggressively for several players already identified by the recruitment department.

Celtic are understood to value the player at around £26 million and remain in a strong negotiating position due to Nygren's long-term contract. However, there is increasing belief that the player would be open to a move to England if the right opportunity presents itself this summer.

For Spurs, the pursuit of Nygren reflects a wider shift towards younger, dynamic attacking players capable of developing into elite Premier League performers. The club have struggled for goals and creativity throughout much of the season, particularly following injuries to key attacking players. Nygren is viewed internally as someone who could immediately strengthen the squad while also offering significant long-term value.
