Chelsea are reportedly preparing to test Arsenal's resolve with a summer move for teenage sensation Ethan Nwaneri as the club continue their aggressive long-term recruitment strategy.
The 19-year-old has continued his rapid development at Arsenal this season, impressing whenever given opportunities in the first team. His technical quality, composure on the ball and ability to operate in multiple attacking positions have made him one of the standout young players at the Emirates Stadium. Chelsea scouts have reportedly tracked his progress closely over the past year and believe he has the potential to become one of the Premier League's elite creative midfielders.
Nwaneri has contributed several goals and assists across domestic and European competitions this season despite still being in the early stages of his senior career. His confidence in possession and intelligence between the lines have drawn comparisons with some of England's top attacking midfielders, while his versatility is another major attraction for Chelsea's recruitment team.
Chelsea are expected to continue investing heavily in youth this summer as the club attempt to build a squad capable of competing for major honours over the next decade. The Stamford Bridge hierarchy believe signing elite young players before they fully establish themselves at rival clubs remains one of the smartest approaches in the current market.
Nwaneri has had a so far unsuccessful loan spell at Marseille, but will return to Arsenal shortly.
Despite that, Chelsea are believed to be willing to test Arsenal's position with a substantial offer during the summer window. The Blues know any potential deal would be extremely difficult to complete, but there is confidence internally that their long-term project and willingness to provide young players with major opportunities could at least encourage discussions.
