Nusa set to join Liverpool as Salah replacement?

Liverpool chasing RB Leipzig star Antonio Nusa

18 May 2026 - 17:35

Liverpool are being linked with a summer move for RB Leipzig winger Antonio Nusa, with the Norwegian international emerging as a possible attacking target as the club look to refresh their forward line.

  • Chelsea to spend £325m on six signings under Xabi Alonso
  • Chelsea to sign £50m goalkeeper to replace Sanchez?

  • The 21-year-old has been regarded as one of Europe's most exciting young wide players for several years, dating back to his breakthrough at Club Brugge. Leipzig moved early to sign him in 2024, paying around €21m, and his development in the Bundesliga has only increased interest from bigger clubs. Liverpool are now being mentioned as one of the teams watching closely.

Nusa would make sense for Liverpool because of his profile. He is quick, direct, technically sharp and comfortable playing from the left wing, although he can also operate across the front line. He likes to receive wide, attack defenders, drive inside and create danger through movement rather than simply waiting for service. That kind of unpredictability is exactly what Liverpool have often looked for in wide forwards.

His season stats show a player still developing, but already making an impact. In the Bundesliga this campaign, Nusa has produced around four goals and three to five assists in roughly 30 to 31 appearances, with more than 2,000 league minutes played. He has also been one of Leipzig's more active attackers for shots, key passes and ball carries, showing that his influence is about more than just raw goal numbers.

For Liverpool, the attraction is partly about timing. Their attack is still strong, but the club know they need to think ahead. Mohamed Salah's long-term future remains a wider strategic question, while Liverpool have also looked at other young forwards across Europe. Nusa would not necessarily arrive as a direct Salah replacement, but he could become part of the next generation of attacking options.

The fee will be important. Nusa's market value is believed to be around €32m, but Leipzig would almost certainly demand more than that. Recent reports have suggested a possible price somewhere between €45m and €60m, depending on how serious the interest becomes. Leipzig are not a club that usually sell elite young talent cheaply, especially when several suitors are circling.

Liverpool are not alone in the race. Arsenal, Tottenham and Newcastle have all been linked, while Barcelona have also watched him closely. Inter have been mentioned too, which shows how broad the interest is becoming.
